Why   Plant Trees?

We recognise people are more environmentally conscious these days and that by focusing on eco-friendly products is one of the ways we can minimize our environmental footprint.

In order for us to establish a formal environmental policy, we started working towards increasing the sustainability of picture framing.   The main components of picture framing comprise wood mouldings, glass and boards.  Unfortunately, there are very few FSC-certified mouldings and boards available and glass making has one of the highest energy-intensive manufacturing processes in industry.  Add to the 'eco-bottomline' the embedded emissions from transporting framing materials from the other side of the planet and it soon becomes clear very little can be achieved by a small business.

Planting a new tree with every wood framing order takes immediate climate action by off-setting some of the industrial pollution in the manufacturing and transportation of our framing materials. Some observers consider these efforts minimal.  However, planting new trees our first step in developing a free-style environmental policy as well as being a good way to establish an urban forestry programme. Our first trees have been planted in Africa through plantation partner 'More:Trees'. Since then, we have began to focus on how we could feasibly plant an urban forest in Portsmouth (UK)?  This initiative was launched on Earth Day 2025.

Modern cities need trees to help regulate air pollution.  For context, the City of Portsmouth was recognised as a 'Tree City of the World' in 2022 and 2023, but that status lapsed in 2024 and 2025.   Since the city is preparing to mark its centenary in 2026, we felt it is a opportune time to establish the community forest to help regain 'Tree City' status in 2026, as well as simultaneously celebrate the 'future city' taking climate action for future generations.
